\nUP-Labels is a leading provider of premium tire-marking products and\ntechnologies. It all started almost 10 years ago when we founded UP-Labels as a\nstartup with a passion for chemistry and technology. Thanks to a personal friend\nwith great connections, we got the chance to dive into the tire industry and see one of\nits biggest challenges up close. To sum it up: quality managers were dealing with a\nhuge headache from recurring OE customer audits constantly criticizing poor\ntire markings. Tire manufacturers make tires. Marking and printing on the sidewall?\nThat’s not their core expertise and it is anything but easy. So we created our\n‘aspirin’ for the problem: UP-Labels marking products, technologies and\ntechnical support. Ten years ago, one of our global customers had thousands of its\ntires rejected due to faulty markings. Today, this company reports return rates related to\nmarking issues consistently below 5ppm.\n\n \n

Die Wiener Firma Up-Labels ist führend im Bereich Reifen-Kennzeichnung. Der Weg dahin war nicht nur aus technischer Sicht herausfordernd.

\n \n\nAls Gerald Ullrich und Thomas Prorok 2015 ihr Unternehmen Up-Labels gründeten, hatten sie ein Ziel: Veredelungen für komplizierte Oberflächen zu entwickeln.\n\nEines der am schwierigsten zu behandelnden Materialien ist der Gummi von Reifen. Wegen seiner chemischen Zusammensetzung lässt er sich nur schwer beschriften und bekleben.\n\nAußerdem sind Reifen Umwelteinflüssen schutzlos ausgeliefert und werden pro Kilometer etwa 500 Mal an jeder Stelle ihres Umfangs verformt. ‘Eine echte Herausforderung für alles, was auf einem Reifen draufstehen soll’, so Geschäftsführer Ullrich.\n\n

Der Weg zum Erfolg

\n\nVor neun Jahren hat Ullrich im Keller seines Hauses das Produkt ‘LTA Tire Dots’ entwickelt. Das sind Reifenmarkierungen, die man sich wie Haut-Tattoos vorstellen kann: hauchdünne Abziehbilder für Reifenoberflächen, die vollautomatisch aufgetragen werden können.\n\n2016 begann die Serienproduktion, nur wenige Monate später war das Start-up fast pleite. Ullrich: ‘Dann bekamen wir aber noch ein paar Chancen bei großen Reifenherstellern unsere Produkte vorzustellen.’\n\nResultat: Heute setzen fast alle namhaften Produzenten weltweit die Wiener Innovation zur Kennzeichnung wichtiger Positionen auf der Reifenseitenwand ein.\n\nWeitere Produkte zur großflächigen Reifendekoration befinden sich bereits in Entwicklung und Ausdauertests, zum Beispiel individuelle farbige Beschriftungen, die künftig nicht nur für Großkunden, sondern etwa auch die Tuning-Szene interessant sein dürften.\n\nPublished in ÖAMTC auto touring – Feb. 2025 \nÖAMTC – Runde Sache\n\n
